About Us
In 1995, a group of men envisioned an event that would remove gay, bisexual, and transgendered men from the stress and confinement of the city to build a sense of community. This event, the first CAMP, took place over Labor Day weekend of 1996, with the CAMPers asked to leave their attitude behind and open themselves up to the possibilities of relating to other men as friends and brothers. CAMP received its name from an acronym reflective of its goal: Come And Meet People. It was a great success.
Each year’s CAMP has built on the idealistic foundation created by previous CAMP gatherings. A dedicated and persistent volunteer community (a.k.a. The Boyz in the Woods) has made it all happen. Originally produced in collaboration with Gay City Health Project, CAMP’s increasingly complex logistical planning process, along with a desire to grow and expand, prompted the creation of a new organization dedicated to the support of CAMP and to strengthen our community.
The new organization, Q-Squared Men, is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to supporting CAMP and related community-based activities.
In addition to CAMP, we create many collaborative projects
with other organizations that promote our common goals in
improving the lives of gay men.
